What is a colonic?

A colonic, also known as colon hydrotherapy or colonic irrigation, It is the introduction of warm filtered water into the rectum to flush out and cleanse the colon. Even the most healthy of us have hardened accumulations of waste which adhere to the wall of the colon and can prevent proper elimination of waste. The warm water and a gentle massage help to soften and remove compacted faecal matter from the colon, significantly improving your health.

What happens during a colonic?

On your first visit we take a medical history and details of your diet and lifestyle. Once this is done, we ask you to empty your bladder and then to put on a gown and to lie on a couch. We use large towels to cover your abdomen area and preserve your modesty at all times.

A disposable speculum is gently inserted into your rectum through which warm filtered water is introduced into your colon. During the treatment the therapist may gently massage the abdomen to help to loosen compacted waste. The water and waste leave the colon via a closed disposable tube. It is not possible to smell the waste through this tube. After the session, we will leave the room and you will be able to sit on a toilet to pass any residual stools or water. The session lasts for one hour.
